My Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship

WCMT

I have been lucky enough to have been awarded a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship in the Young Person Category to be able to go and research The role of Civil Society Organisations (specifically young people) in policy engagement.

What is the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust?

The Fellowships provide a unique opportunity for UK citizens to travel overseas to bring back fresh ideas and new solutions to today’s issues, for the benefit of others in the UK. This allows them to maximise what they can achieve in their lifetime, both as leaders and role models to inspire others, but also in personal development terms.

These opportunities are offered to people of any age, gender, ethnicity or religion, with or without educational qualifications, and in any occupation or none.

More information can be found on their website.

My Fellowship

Over the summer I will be travelling to the United States of America and Canada to explore my topic from across local engagement, regional or state engagement, country engagement and then International engagement.

In particular, I will be meeting a range of organisations which relate across my 5 main objectives which are:

  • Identify and Understand the challenges which each of these organisations face
  • Identify and Understand the role which young people play
  • Identify and Understand the motivation of Civil Society Organisations to be engaged or the decision makers to allow their engagement
  • Identify best practice models of engagements under different circumstances
  • Understand the impact that the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child has in this process.

If you would like to find out more about my fellowship please feel free to get in touch.
